Outboard Motors Allowed on Dinghies
Harbor Bulletin

Date:           May 27, 2009

Outboard Motors Allowed on Dinghies

Effective immediately outboard motors are allowed on the permitted dinghies at the Town Landing pier. The Town Council at the May 26, 2009 council meeting amended the Coastal Waters Ordinance (Section 9-95, F (4)) to allow outboard motors. The motors may remain on the dinghies; however external fuel tanks may not be left onboard overnight.

The first violation of leaving an external fuel tank overnight will result in a warning from the Harbor Masters office. A second offense will result in the dinghy being impounded, stored at owner’s expense and the immediate revocation of dinghy permit.

Any dinghy with an outboard or electric motor MUST have a valid State of Maine boat registration and corresponding display of the registration on the dinghy.

Conscientious maintenance of all dinghies is expected of the owner. Upon being notified by the Harbor Master’s office of their dinghy being full of water, sunk or under the dock or pier or otherwise left in an unsafe condition, it shall be the responsibility of the owner to correct the problem as soon as possible. In the event the owner does not correct the problem, or make arrangements to correct the problem within 48 hours, the dinghy will be removed at the owner’s expense. Any fees incurred to pump out or salvage a dinghy will be assessed to the permit holder.
