In order to conduct or operate Beano or Bingo a license must be obtained from the Chief of the State Police. Clubs, groups, or organizations comprised of members who are at least 62 years of age can conduct beano or bingo for their own entertainment and recreation and not for profit without obtaining a license. Licenses may be issued by the Chief of State Police to any volunteer fire department or any agricultural fair association or nonprofit charitable, educational, political, civic, recreational, fraternal, patriotic, religious, or veteran's organization which has existed for
at least 2 years prior to its application. Seasonal licenses may also be issued to resort hotels provided they are operated by the management without profit and solely for the entertainment of guests of the hotel. Persons under the age of 16 are not permitted to participate in or conduct Beano or Bingo.
Procedure:
A license to conduct Beano or Bingo may be obtained from the Chief of State Police. The fee is $12.00/week. A license may be issued for a calendar month for a fee of $36.00. A maximum of twenty-six weeks may be applied for in advance. The application must be fully completed and approved by the local Town Clerk. It is then forwarded to the Chief of State Police in Augusta at least 8 days prior to first date of operation.
