About the Falmouth Town Council

The Town Council is the governing body of the Town and consists of seven council members who are elected at-large. Each Council member may serve two consecutive terms of three years. The Council elects the Chair of the Council from among its members following each election.

The election for Council members is held once a year on the 2nd Tuesday in June. Nomination papers are available in the Town Clerk's Office beginning sometime in March.

Council Duties:
The Town Council has a number of duties and responsibilities. The following is an outline of those. It is intended to be illustrative of the scope of the wide range of responsibilities of these elected officials. To view a full version of the Council rules, please click here.
• Establish policy
• Supervise the Town Manager
• Supervise the Town Attorney
• Represent the Town on various Regional/State issues
• Provide public leadership

Where Does Council Activity Occur?

Council Meetings - 4th Monday of the month, 7:00 p.m. at Town Hall
Council Workshops/Special Meetings - 2nd Monday of the month, 7:00 p.m. at Town Hall
Council Subcommittee Meetings - Scheduled as needed (see Calendar of Events)
Council Budget Workshops - Scheduled as needed (see Calendar of Events)
Special Sessions - Scheduled as needed (see Calendar of Events)

All meetings of the Council are open to the public and are usually held at Town Hall in the Council Chambers.

Council-Manager Government:
The Council-Manager form of government was established in Falmouth in 1962. Since that time, the Town has had a Town Manager who is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Town. As described in the Town Charter, certain responsibilities are vested in the Town Manager, and the Council also has certain functions and roles it must fulfill.
